The cornea is the clear ‘front window' of the eye and is the main light focusing element of eye (the lens can thought simply as a fine tune). The conjuctiva is the membrane that covers the white of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelids. Together the cornea and conjunctiva form what is know as the 'ocular surface' or the 'external eye'. Andrew Coombes has had considerable experience in this field and undertook additional subspeciality training in this area at Moorfields Hospital before becoming a consultant. This included all aspects of corneal and ocular suface disease as well as surgery and laser treatment for refractive error.
