The eyelids have are particularly important both in terms of function and cosmetic appearance. The prime function of the eyelids is to protect the eye. If this function is compromised there is a significant risk of sight loss. Oculoplastic surgery is the term used to describe eyelid surgery.
Andrew Coombes has extensive experience in this field, runs the oculoplastic service at Barts and The London NHS Trust and before becoming a consultant undertook additional subspeciality training in eyelid surgery. In addition to cosmetic eyelid surgery, Andrew Coombes has particular expertise in treating all eyelid malpositions (eg ptosis, entropion, ectropion), periocular tumours and the consequences of facial nerve palsies (eg Bells palsy). He is a member of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society.
